The Paralympic Torch is coming to Eltham

The Deputy Mayor of Greenwich, Cllr Angela Cornforth, will join staff and supporters from Sainsbury’s Eltham to welcome the Paralympic Torch on Sunday, 19 August when it visits the store on Philipot Path for two hours.
Sainsbury’s as the first ever Paralympic Games-only sponsor, selected the Eltham store from 18 others to see and be photographed with a piece of Great British history.
The experience will raise funds for the Freddie Farmer Foundation as all proceeds from the photos will go to the Fund.
Colleagues and Customers will be able to hold the Paralympic Torch which will be accompanied by a member of the Sainsbury’s Paralympic team.
Marissa Arnold, human resources manager at Sainsbury’s Eltham, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for our customers and colleagues to see and be photographed with a piece of Great British history.
“We’re really excited about the Paralympic Torch visit.”
Colleagues at the Eltham store have helped to raise the profile of this year’s Paralympic Games in the local area through a number of activities, including the 1 Million kids challenge and with their support for the Freddie Farmer Foundation.
Sainsbury’s Eltham Store Manager Ian Keeble added: “We’ve really enjoyed playing our part in raising awareness of the London 2012 Paralympic Games in Eltham. For our customers, it’s a once in a lifetime chance for them to see the Torch and feel the buzz of the Paralympic Games, which is now just a few weeks away.”
The Torch is scheduled to arrive at the store on Sunday 19 August at 10am.
