Sainsbury’s Eltham to host fundraiser for Freddie during half-term week

From Monday to Friday, October 24-28, Sainsbury’s in Philipot Path off Eltham High Street will have fun activities in store to raise funds for their charity for a year, the Freddie Farmer Foundation.

The charity partnership started on June 21 and staff hope the fundraising week will help to raise the profile of the Freddie Farmer Foundation in the local community.

The week will include a guess the weight of a pumpkin brought in from an employee’s allotment, a lucky dip at £2 a go, raffles and bag-packing by a team of volunteers from the charity.

There will also be Freddie’s Bread Pudding, baked in the store, Freddie’s Teddies (biscuits), balloons and wristbands advertising the local cause.

Eltham customers are invited to support the Freddie Farmer Foundation fundraising week by joining in the fun and making donations on the day.

Freddie’s mum, Deanne Farmer, said: “It’s a wonderful idea by Sainsbury’s. They have taken our charity very much to heart and we’re grateful to their staff and Sainsbury’s shoppers for the help we have already received.”

“The store has already supported a coffee morning, a raffle and a purple-themed fund-raiser to raise £1,120.91. It’s great.”

The Freddie Farmer Foundation was set up in February to raise £250,000 to set up a specialist physiotherapy centre in SE London for children and young people with cerebral palsy and serious mobility problems. Freddie Farmer, who was born at 28 weeks with cerebral palsy, weighing just 2lbs 12oz, has been the inspiration behind it.
