A husband and father of two from Bromley has put together a team of eight to take on one of the toughest challenges in the UK,  The Three Peaks Challenge, to raise money for the Save the Children charity.

Paul Martenstyn's team start their endurance feat at the foot of Ben Nevis at 12pm on June 25.

They aim to be at the bottom of Snowdon 24 hours later, having climbed the highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales - a challenge that involves 9,800ft of ascent, 26 miles of hiking and 450 miles driving – non-stop!

Paul, 37, who works as a barrister’s clerk in London, was inspired to put the team challenge together because of the work he is currently doing with Save the Children.

“It's an organisation I have supported for the past 20 years and they have two projects we want to support to help disadvantaged children in the UK,” said Paul.

With a target of £5,000 in mind, the diverse group of friends, family and colleagues, whose ages range from 21 to 40, will be raising money for two projects that focus on supporting children in the UK, in the early stages of their lives.

Save the Children’s ‘Eat Sleep Learn Play!’ programme supports children living in the most severe poverty. The scheme awards crisis grants to provide household essentials, such as a child's bed, a cooker, or toys and books, to low income families who simply can't afford to buy these items themselves.

The second project is ‘Families and Schools Together’, an early-intervention programme, that brings parents, children, teachers and the wider community together, to make sure children get the support they need to fulfil their potential at school – and in life.
