On 8th March Agnieszka Lokaj together with the group 'Be Mixed' have organised a photography exhibition held in Lewisham Polish Centre in Forest Hill. The exhibition's theme was about women and commemorated International Women's Day. International Women's Day is a very popular day in Poland and one that is celebrated by all sections of the community. The artist Izabela Banaszkiewicz donated pieces of art for this event to celebrate women.

The aim of the exhibition was to show the beauty and uniqueness of women. The author of the exhibition considers that there are no ugly women, only those whose beauty is sometimes hidden due to problems and suffering. Banaszkiewicz herself is a survivor of domestic violence. Photography has helped her overcome the fear and pain; it was an escape for her from problems, as well as a therapy.

This event was an attempt to break the negative stereotypes about Poles and to show that they are open, active and willing to be involved in the local life. The exhibition was also the beginning of a stronger relationship with the local communities.

The opening of the exhibition was attended by Members of the British Parliament, Heidi Alexander and Jim Dowd, Perry Vale Ward councillor Susan Wise, as well as Polish entrepreneurs, social activists and members of the public.

Members of Be Mixed have more plans for the future. They hope to expand the activities of Lewisham Polish Centre and to encourage Poles to social activities and integration into British society.
