Students at Meopham School were treated to a visit by Councillor Tanmanjeet Dhesi.

Councillor Dhesi, who resides in Gravesend, spoke inspirationally about his pathway to academic success, and his passion for politics and serving the local community.

Ashley Cousins, Head Boy, said, “It was a privilege to meet Mr Dhesi, who responded to our request for a visit with enthusiasm.” Gaby Hicks, Head Girl, said, “the assembly really motivated us to aspire to take an active role in the local community, and to understand the crucial part that success at school can play in this.”

Mr Dhesi also led a workshop with a group of Sixth Form students on the topic of politics and democracy.

Mr Nijjer, Assistant Headteacher and Director of Sixth Form said, “The workshop provided an insight into the inner workings of the local government. The students found it to be fascinating and some of them are interested in pursuing a career in politics.”

Mrs Dickinson, Headteacher, added, “Pupils really related to Mr Dhesi’s story. It was really energising to hear about a local person’s journey to success. He made the students feel that dreams can, indeed, be achieved.”
