Local hospice charity Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice celebrated the achievements of its staff and volunteers last night at their Annual Public Meeting where they announced the winners of the annual Hospice Ambassador Awards.

Eight categories made up the Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice Ambassador Awards with all staff and volunteers being given the opportunity to nominate each other. The presentations were made by the charity’s Deputy Chair, Paula Keats and Sue Smyth, PA to the Chief Executive and Board at the Hospice, on Bostall Hill, Abbey Wood last night.

People who attended the meeting included Staff and Volunteers, Trustees and Members of Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice, as well as local commissioners and representatives from partner organisations and Hospice supporters.

Chief Executive Kate Heaps recognised the opportunity to showcase and reward the excellence and commitment that is demonstrated by Hospice staff and volunteers.

She said: “Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice prides itself on its commitment to delivering high quality specialist end of life care and support to over 2,500 local people and their families, friends and carers every year. It is because of the outstanding contributions from the people who work for us or alongside us that we can continue to provide such high quality care at the Hospice, at hospital, in care homes and at home.”

The night ended with a presentation to thank Health Care Assistant, Helen Atterbury and Senior Clinical Administrator, Clare Preston for 20 years of dedicated service. Both staff members joined Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice just after the Hospice opened its doors to the public in 1994.

Since those early days, the Hospice has grown in size and the services delivered by Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice have developed to meet the changing needs of local people and their families.

Today the Hospice provides specialist palliative end of life care and support to over 2,500 local people and their families every year at the Hospice, in the community and at home.

It has 160 members of staff and over 550 volunteers.
