Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice is celebrating a successful Open Gardens weekend this summer (14-15 June), with £13,200 being raised for the charity, which provides free specialist end of life nursing, medical care and support for local people and their families.

Sarah O'Halloran, Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice Fundraising Manager, says that the charity is very grateful to everyone who opened their garden, or visited one.

“We had over 400 visitors in total to the 26 Royal Greenwich gardens which opened,” she says. “It was fantastic to see so many enthusiastic gardeners, local residents and tourists turn out to our first Open Gardens Festival Weekend in support of the Hospice.

“The gardens ranged from allotments in Prior Street in West Greenwich to a rare Plantsman’s Garden in Blackheath and a three-time Greenwich in Bloom winner in Eltham Park.

“As a novice gardener myself, I learnt lots of useful tips to put into my own garden!” she says. “It was terrific.”

Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice is looking for even more keen gardeners to open their gates next year, across the whole of the Royal Greenwich and Bexley area which the charity covers.
