This week is Volunteers Week (1st-7th June) and as part of the national celebrations Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice in Abbey Wood, South-East London is putting out a call for more people to join its team of over 560 volunteers.

“Volunteering is a great way of supporting your local community and that is exactly what we are asking local people to do by becoming a Hospice Neighbour,” said Volunteers Manager, Vanessa Hill.

Hospice Neighbours will help with simple everyday tasks such as walking the dog or changing a light bulb or they might just provide a bit of company, a listening ear and regular friendly contact to people with serious illness and their carers.

An information meeting and training session will be held on Wednesday 2nd July at Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice, 185 Bostall Hill, Abbey Wood, London SE2 0GB. There will be subsequent training sessions throughout the month.

If you are interested in becoming a Hospice Neighbour and you would like to find out more or if you would like to join the Hospice Volunteer Team in any other area, please contact the Volunteers’ Department on 020 8320 5812 or email vanessahill@gbch.org.uk.
