Aaron French-Gibbens from Larchwood Road, New Eltham took a giant leap for charity on a bungee cord on March 23.

Aaron’s sponsored 160ft bungee jump at the London O2 Arena in Greenwich was bought for him as a birthday present but the 19-year-old decided to use it to raise funds for charity instead.

“I heard about the Freddie Farmer Foundation from my parents,” said Aaron. “I wanted to help a local charity.

“My parents had met Freddie at wheelchair football, which is something I have raised money for before. My younger brother Shea goes to wheelchair football and has cerebral palsy, like Freddie.

“We used to go to Poland twice a year to do a similar therapy to Freddie’s so I was 100 per cent on board as soon as I heard their plans to set up and run a centre closer to home to help disabled kids with cerebral palsy and serious mobility problems.”

“Having a centre locally to help children like Freddie would be a huge step for the UK, especially London and the south east,” he said.

Charity worker Anita Catchesides said: “Aaron is so brave, it’s an amazing achievement, raising a fantastic £720 for the cause.”

“I was a little nervous before the jump but loved it during and afterwards and would happily do it again - but higher!” said Aaron. “I would like to do the 300ft jump next time.”
