Up to 200 people attended the launch of the new non-profit Community Interest Company 60 Up CIC.

The event took place at St Laurence Centre, in Catford.

The aim of the day was to raise the profile of 60Up, introduce the Enterprise to the local community and to showcase some of the organisations and community groups who provide activities and services for the over 60s in Lewisham.

The event was a great success with poetry readings from Councillor Pauline Morrison and writer/poet Leila Ward, a line dancing display from the EPSP Line Dancers and songs and carols from the SENIORS choir.

Lewisham Homes Welfare Benefits team were on hand to give advice on fuel bills and benefit entitlement and staff from Lewisham’s Community Health Service advised visitors on healthy lifestyle choices.

The Complementary therapies and pamper treatments, Diabetes UK stand, gift and information stalls all contributed to a vibrant day.

The C.I.C. based in the Borough of Lewisham seeks to provide social, cultural and health activities aimed at keeping older adults active and engaged in their local community and addressing the need for healthy lifestyle choices.

Founder and Managing Director Christina Israel was very pleased with the turn out.

In the light of financial cuts for many community groups providing services for older people, she saw the need for an organisation which would work with like-minded individuals and communities to ensure the continuation and increase of preventative services for older people.
