Greenwich businesses including staff from the Italian restaurant chain Zizzi, Creekside Design to Print and the Old Royal Naval College's facilities team joined in the fun yesterday (Tuesday, February 12th) at the first annual Royal Greenwich Charity Pancake Race.

Teams navigated a route around the grounds of The Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich, London while flipping pancakes in a relay race event.

It was won by Zizzi who received a special winners frying pan.

The event raises funds for Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice, which provides free specialist end-of-life care for adults with life-limiting illnesses, as well as providing support for their families, friends and carers.

"Everyone was in great spirit," said community fundraising manager Stephanie Fuller.

Race sponsor Danny Bastone from Creekside Design to Print ltd said: "It was great fun taking part in the pancake race, unfortunately we never won, but it's the taking part that counts! It was great to be a part of it and to support such a good local cause."

Greenwich's very own Mark Biddiss and stylist Kirsty Tye hosted the event which included a pancake eating competition and the race commentator was the Mayor of Greenwich, Councillor David Grant.

Pancakes on site were provided by Mini Dutch Dippers who trade Tuesday-Friday at Greenwich Market.

Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice is the only adult hospice in the Royal Borough of Greenwich and in Bexley covering an area of 40 square miles and a population of 500,000. The Hospice nurses care for over 2,500 local people every year.
