An entrepreneur from Dartford has swapped his high powered career in the City for a community-orientated project after launching a home care provider for the elderly.

Raspinder Singh, 28, had worked in corporate finance before deciding to open Caremark Dartford and Gravesham in February of this year.

“For me it just wasn’t fulfilling, just going into work and doing the same thing, day in and day out,” Mr Singh told News Shopper.

“I wanted to add some value into my own life and I had an epiphany one day. I thought: ‘What am I doing? What is this doing for me?’”

Mr Singh, an active member of the Sikh community in Dartford, already spent a lot of time volunteering with his local temple. He believes his religion was one of the main things that drove him to launch the service.

“Our religion is about helping other people and doing as much as I can to help. The business really fit into that,” he said.

A member of a large family himself, Mr Singh sees the importance of keeping people in their homes wherever possible, so they can spend more time with family.

After launching the service in February, it was awarded its Care Quality Commission registration in March but has not yet been inspected. Mr Singh said he got to work straight away after being licensed.

The team of 20 care providers offer social and personal care, by visiting homes of clients and taking them to social groups, sorting out the food shop and doing household chores.

“You might be the only person they see all day so it’s an important service,” Mr Singh said.

As well as providing care, Mr Singh will also make charitable donations to access groups across the community for the elderly.

“These groups are largely self-funded and Kent County Council often support them, but a lot of that support has been cut back,” he told News Shopper.
