The first Biggin Hill butchers in a decade will open this week.

Family-run Jacobs Ladder Ltd will open on 160 Main Road on Tuesday (April 17).

Barber shop 2K Men was the previous occupier of the building.

Christopher John Bartlett, who is helping his parents and little brother with the business, spoke to News Shopper about the butcher shop.

He said: “Biggin Hill hasn’t had one in so long. My dad spoke to locals and he knew they wanted a butchers.

“The reaction has been fantastic, people are walking in and wondering when we are open.”

Christopher’s dad, Perry, decided to open the business after teaching butchery lessons for 10 years at The Ginger Pig in London.

“He wanted to get back into butchery properly,” Christopher said. “He is very passionate about it. He was a bit bored of doing the lessons and we first talked about opening the business a couple of years back.

“We are very excited to open. We are grinding now and getting everything ready.”

Christopher will celebrate his 34th birthday on the day of the opening.

He was recently named Burger Chef of the Year by Casual Dining.

“It was a complete shock,” he said: “It was quite a big competition. I was up against some big London names and I would have considered myself an underdog.”

Christopher has his own food truck called BeefBoxx.
