Bexley businesses have become unusually quiet during recent roadworks, forcing traders to think of unique ways to drum up sales.
January is normally the busiest time of the year for Tickets Travel, in the High Street, but staff have noticed a decline in business in recent weeks.
Roadworks to replace the Old Mill bridge began on January 7 - signalling the start of months of disruption for drivers, and a period of uncertainty for business owners.
On Friday, the company decided to enlist the town crier's help to advertise its Bermuda and Barbados sale.
He popped down between 10am and 2pm, whilst the travel agents gave away Bermuda classic dark and stormy cocktails.
Manager Kirsty Kitching said: "Whilst business is good at Tickets Travel, it could be better.
"This the peak season for travel but we have noticed a decline in footfall since the roadworks have been in place."
Gridlock through the village on Friday
Some traders told News Shopper they worried they would be forced to close down, because of the roadworks.
The council has asked residents not to be put off by queues, and to continue to support their local businesses.
