Bromley has topped a poll of the most attractive London boroughs for small businesses.

A new index released by the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) and auditing and tax service KPMG shows the best and worst places for owners to operate in the capital.

Bromley, alongside Croydon, stood out as the most attractive area by “providing the least burdensome environment,” said the FSB.

The study featured a survey of 200 businesses across London and looked at factors such as broadband speed and transport links.

Kensington and Chelsea was found to be the hardest place to run a small business because of higher costs and more complicated local administration.

London policy chair for FSB Sue Terpilowski OBE said the diversity of the economy throughout inner and outer London adds to the group’s argument that financial powers should be better spread.

KPMG’s Yael Selfin, author of the report, added: “Performance across London boroughs varies significantly in providing the environment small businesses need to develop and flourish.

“There are many opportunities for forward-thinking councils to turn their fortunes around in becoming magnet towns for small businesses.”
