A YOUNG archaeologist has won a national competiton after designing a specialist wheelchair.

Ten-year-old Zoe Collins came up with the Arch Pal a wheelchair which can be raised or lowered so disabled children can get involved in archaeology.

The wheelchair, with compartments for tools and storage areas for finds, was awarded first prize in a competition run by disabled organisation Mobility Choice.

Zoe won £1,000 cash and £250 of stationery and art materials for her school in the seven to 11 age category of the Ready, Willing and Mobile competition.

She also won a digital camera, £100 of books and an activity weekend for herself.

The pupil at Perry Hall Primary School, Perry Hall Road, Orpington, recently went on her first dig in Devon.

She also has an area in her garden her mum Jenny lets her dig up and has found pottery and a coin from 1941.

Zoe said: "Just because you are disabled does not mean you shouldn't be able to do things everyone else can do."
