ENVIRONMENTAL activists have been protesting against nuclear power.
Members of Bromley Greenpeace stood in Orpington High Street and handed out leaflets about the proposed building of nuclear power stations.
Their demonstration followed a pledge by Tony Blair to promote nuclear energy.
Campaigners also talked to shoppers about trains travelling through the borough which carry nuclear waste from nuclear power stations, including Dungeness in Kent, to the Sellafield reprocessing plant in Cumbria.
Bromley Greenpeace spokesman Ann Garrett said: "We already have highly toxic nuclear waste which can fill the Royal Albert Hall five times over.
"The proposed expansion in nuclear energy will mean we are going to have four times more waste to transport through London.
"We should plug the holes of energy wastage and invest in renewable sources."
