MORE than 95 per cent of child minders in the borough are providing a satisfactory service or better, according to figures from Ofsted.
The latest report from the government watchdog graded 557 child minders in Bromley borough after visits between April 1, 2005 and June 30, 2008.
More than 61 per cent of child minders or 341 services, were given a good rating while 6 per cent, or 34 services, were given the top rating of outstanding.
A total of 162 services were found to be offering a satisfactory service.
Ofsted rated just 20 child minders as inadequate, handing them notices of action to improve.
Ofsted's Chief Inspector Christine Gilbert said: "It's particularly encouraging to note that where we found inadequate provision in previous inspections, these settings have improved significantly.
"However, there is still more to do to ensure that outcomes for all children are of a consistently high standard and that every child has access to the same quality care, particularly in areas where provision is generally poorer."
