9:26am Friday 16th May 2008

AUTISM sufferers in the borough are set to benefit from a £150,000 windfall.

The Jack Petchey Foundation is donating £45,000 to charity Bexley and Bromley Advocacy for its Young People's Advocacy project.

Children in Need is donating the remaining £105,000 for the project, which will provide independent advice and support for teenagers in the borough.

Set up in 1995, Bexley and Bromley Advocacy supports young people with learning disabilities or autism.

Director Vivienne Lester said: "This is a really exciting opportunity for us to work with young people and to support them to make decisions and plan for their future.

"We already support people in three schools in Bromley to run their own groups and to gain the confidence to make new lives when they leave school."

The Jack Petchey Foundation gives grants to programmes and projects which benefit young people aged between 11 and 25.
