Children donate pens to Kenyan orphanage

11:36am Thursday 15th May 2008

A CHARITY worker has visited a school in Bromley to collect pens and pencils for an orphanage in Kenya.

Youngsters aged from five to 11 at Bickley Primary School, Nightingale Lane, Bromley handed over around 500 pens and pencils to Mission Care worker Jonnie Horner.

Each of the 212 pupils at the school brought in a pen and pencil.

Last Christmas the school donated its old computers to schools and orphanages in Uganda and Kenya.

Jonnie Horner, who works in Kenyan camps for children escaping the country's violence, also gave a talk to the children about conditions there.

Deputy headteacher Glyn Roberts said: "It teaches the children about the wider world and conditions in different parts of the world."
