POLICE dogs were put through their paces during a three-day News Shopper-sponsored event.
Led by 16 dog handlers, the animals were pitted against each other in gun attack, crowd control and chase and detain exercises.
The dogs are used in patrols in Lambeth, Southwark, Lewisham, Croydon, Bromley, Greenwich and Bexley, and are based at a central unit in Catford.
The event, which took place at the Metropolitan Police Dog Training School, in Layhams Road, Keston, was followed by an awards ceremony in Croydon Road, Bromley.
PC Alan Chapman scooped first place with Buster, with second place going to PC Louise Fisher and Bodie.
PC Becky Tomlinson and Sultan came third.
All the winners will now compete in the London-wide police dog championships.
Sergeant Graham Wait, who helped organise the event, said: "The attitude of all the competitors has been absolutely superb. Everybody entered in the right spirit and performed very well indeed."
