Bromley celebrates Diversity Day with music and dance

THE borough of Bromley celebrated its cultural diversity with performances from across the world on Tuesday (16).

Communities from throughout the borough attended the Bromley Civic Centre event where audiences were treated to a variety of dance performances including Nepalese, Garba and Jasmine.

Celebrations were opened with a spectacular Chinese Lion Dance performed by the Orpington Chinese Community Association to introduce Deputy Mayor, Councillor Ian Payne.

OCCA treasurer, Jean Andrews, of Lullingstone Crescent, St Paul's Cray said: "Everybody loved it because not everybody has the chance to see a lion dance.

"My personal highlight was when the most beautiful little nepalese girl and she did a dance they do when they are looking for a husband. She was a lovely girl."

Cllr Payne said: “The day was a great opportunity for organisations and voluntary groups within the community to promote the services they provide to all sections of the community.

“There were some inspiring performances and everyone I spoke to said how much they enjoyed this annual event.”

The audience also heard singing from the council’s own staff choir.
