Orpington man prosecuted for displaying night club posters illegally across Bexley

AN ORPINGTON man has been fined for displaying 82 fly-posters for his London nightclub across Bexley.

Kadar Ahmet, of Craven Road, has been prosecuted for placing the advertisements for the club - at the O2 Arena in Greenwich - on lamp columns, traffic lights and railings across the borough.

The 29-year-old pleaded guilty to contravening an enforcement notice regarding the display of an advertisement at Bexley Magistrates Court on September 17.

He was fined £1,000, ordered to pay £500 in costs as well as a £15 victim surcharge.

Bexley Council cabinet member for environment and public realm Councillor Gareth Bacon said: "I hope this will be a lesson to other similar businesses.

"So many people work hard to make the borough an attractive place to live.

"It is disrespectful to simply ignore the law, for your own gain.

"It’s an unnecessary distraction to motorists, to say nothing for it being unfair on other businesses who follow the rules and advertise legally."

After all Bexley council's hard work trying to make the place a concrete and tarmac paradise, some wrong un from the other side of the A20 creeps in and covers the place with bits of paper.

Appalling. Sew him up inside a dead horse. Hang on, there aint been any horses in Bexley borough since that pub in Erith closed.

I agree we want to make the South East a nicer place to live but there are so many unnecessary legal sign posts about in our towns that it's an untidy mess anyway. Just look at Orpington having wider pavements just so as cafes can sprawl chairs all over them and shops can leave out advertising boards. Of course all this makes extra revenue for the boroughs as does fining people for unpaid advertising.

"AN ORPINGTON man has been fined for displaying 82 fly-posters for his London nightclub across Bexley". Surely when you put posters up you are 'fly posting'. The 'fly' refers to a sortened version of 'fly-by'night' and the 'poster' is the advert stuck to railings. In that case you can't display '82 fly posters' unless these were the people putting up posters that shouldn't have been!

so you cant put paper up on posts or walls, but its ok for **** heads in the pubs up and down highstreets to stand on the pavement and blow thier ciggarette smoke over people and thier kids? the harvest moon in orpington bein the worst!!!!

I Disagree 2bobsworth. Sidcup high street is the worst. The pavements are so narrow, you gave to collide with the smokers outside the pub.
