A PARALYMPIAN gold medallist joined the award-winning charity Bromley Mencap at its 24th annual general meeting (AGM).

John Cavanagh has competed in archery at international level for over 16 years and attended the event at Bromley United Reformed Church, in Widmore Road, Bromley, on October 10 .

The four-time Paralympian discussed his experience of the London 2012 Games and his memory of winning a silver medal at Beijing and gold at Athens.

He was joined by Bromley Mencap service users, including Laura Mitchell and Barry McDonald who were torchbearers for the Olympics and Daniel Haywood and Sally De-Laurey who were games-makers.

Chief Executive Eddie Lynch said: "It was a brilliant success, we had over 100 people there which is a great turnout for an AGM.

"John Cavanagh and the volunteers gave inspirational speeches and the audience enjoyed listening to their stories.

"We hope our AGM will build on the thrilling summer of sport we've had and more disabled people will get involved in sporting activities."

Bromley Mencap works with disabled people and has over 1,500 members.

Last summer it won the Guardian Public Service Award for service delivery regarding carers, families and communities and is shortlisted for the Children and Young People Now Awards 2012.
