School children take on Apprentice challenge

Sivajanany Sivaneswaran, 17, at Greenwich Market
CHARLES Darwin pupils honed their entrepreneurial skills during an Apprentice-style task at Greenwich Market last week.
Year 12 vocational business studies students from the school in Jail Lane, Biggin Hill, conducted research for a wooden merchandise range they are unveiling for Christmas.
They visited the market on September 28 in preparation for the product line which will include bird boxes as well as herb boxes, planters and sentimental plaques.
Head of business studies at Charles Darwin School, Gemma Jones, said: "The marketing manager at Greenwich Market was really impressed with the sample bird boxes and invited the class to attend a special Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) event."
Miss Jones said the students were able to liaise with the RSPB charity event organisers, witness market trading and learn effective customer service, all of which will be "invaluable" to their coursework and CV.
The bird box product launch will take place at Greenwich Market on November 28.
