Bromley pet owner's 'feral' cat fears after animal attacks

Sandra Cripps wants information about the 'feral' cat which attacked her pet Sandra Cripps wants information about the 'feral' cat which attacked her pet

A PET owner is fearing for animals’ lives after a spate of attacks by a ‘feral’ cat in her area.

Sandra Cripps found her bloodied 16-year-old cat Tia shaking in a bush in her garden in Cedar Road, Bromley, after being attacked last Saturday afternoon (September 22).

The animal had puncture wounds to the muscles on her left side and had to be sedated at the vet so they could stitch up her injuries and she is now too scared to go outside.

This attack came six weeks after her beloved pet was first attacked.

And Mrs Cripps says she has also seen a dead squirrel in her garden with the same puncture wounds as those sustained by her cat.

The 47-year-old said: “The cat just seems to bite and see what he can attack.

“My worst fear is that this big cat could kill my cat or maybe a kitten.

“He has had two attacks on Tia and hopefully he won’t get her again; because of the size of him it could have been much worse for her.

“The first attack was bad enough and the fur on that side has only just grown back and now all the fur has been taken off on her other side.”

The bills analyst says she has heard of other cats in the area also being attacked and wants to warn people about the danger.

She said: “It is a large tabby cat and terrorises the area.

“It looks like a feral cat but someone must own it.”

Mrs Cripps says the animal is a tabby male and double the size of her cat.

Anyone who thinks they recognise the animal or knows the owner should call Mrs Cripps on 07971 902388.

Could it have been a fox? My Mum has had two cats killed by foxes in recent years one killing was witnessed by a neighbour. The other was heard just after a fox entered the greenery.

Oh please. Cat's fight end of. Don't start panicking the paranoid people of the world thinking there's a Killer "feral" on the loose!
Its probably just a poor neglected Tom cat that hasn't been lucky enough to have a caring person to take him in, have him castrated and an opportunity to have some attention in his life.
Call a decent charity like the Cats Protection League- who genuinely care- (not the rspca) and they will try and trap the cat, take him to a vet and get him the attention he needs bless him.

Bob and the wall get a life yourselves. i know this lady she is not hysterical nor needs to get a life. She is very caring animal lover. Her cat is old and did not fight it was attacked so take your nastiness somewhere else.
i am getting fed up with people like you who make negative comments all the time. The news shopper should start removing people like you.

“It looks like a feral cat but someone must own it.”
Def' of feral:- A feral cat is a descendant of a domesticated cat that has returned to the wild. It is distinguished from a stray cat, which is a pet cat that has been lost or abandoned, while feral cats are born in the wild. The offspring of a stray cat can be considered feral if born in the wild

So,nobody 'must own it'.

I think Mrs Cripps needs glasses or to stop exaggerating.

Elderly cats are a target to foxes & also to bigger younger cats. It does happen & you can hardly hold the owner responsible if there is one! Perhaps an ASBO for the agressor??

I had a very old cat a few years ago. He was 20 when he died. In his younger days, he was a menace. Always going out and starting fights which he normally won. Other cats would get injuries. In his older days, he became a bit of a target and had several injuries due to losing fights. Basically, it happens! Cats fight. Some will win and some will lose.

Well I don't agree with what you say but I will let you say it, because I believe everyone is allowed an opinion and a right to say it.

Unlike you, who don't agree in someone's opinion and want them banned because it up set you or doesn't tick your box of what is nice.

Get over yourself !

If you don't like something, stop reading, being offended on the net is self-elected angst.

The vet can tell whether or not it's a fox bite. My cat was several times attacked by an undoctored male cat. She had to have lots of stitches in her back side at the time. Fortunately someone took this tom in and had him neutered and we had no more problems. Incidently we have a fox visit every day and he's very frightened of our 16 yr old cat.

Cats??? Are they pets? Discuss. If you don't know where something is half the time, or what they are doing, then they are semi stray or feral anyway. Perhaps it's time to stop keeping them as pets. They don't fit in, crap everywhere and kill anything smaller than them. How can any animal lover keep a cat, when they do so much damage to other animals? Maybe get a guinea pig instead?

What a horrible and traumatic thing to have to witness, let alone the expense of the vets bills. I think people have taken her letting us know to be cautious wrongly and they are ridiculing her unnecessarily. She clearly loves cats/animals but why is that reason to mock? I'm sure she didn't want a whole article in the local paper but how else can she warn people of what the cat is capable of. I hope Tia gets better soon and Good Luck tracing the cat. :-) xx

its a cat, they go out and there is a chance that they get attacked. its the same with any animal or person come to that. if you dont want the cat getting attacked then dont let it out. you should have learnt the first time.

Bob no I am not an attention seeker if I was i would be commenting on every article in the news shopper. The Wall yes there is freedom of speech but one should not say nasty comments/mock people when they do not even know the person/situation. the attack was witnessed by Mrs Cripps husband. Their cat was calmly sitting under a bush when the "feral" jumped on it and ripped a hole in its side. second time in six weeks. The news shopper would not have published it if they did not thik it wasnt news that some of the public may be interested in.

I just wonder how many times in any given day a cat gets attacked by another cat in the UK.

Maybe we need to set up a special police unit to combat this crime/s against moggies.
