Bromley young carers' festival a hit
10:00am Thursday 20th September 2012 in Bromley By Heloise Wood
BROMLEY'S young carers do not often get a chance to let their hair down but they did at the Mayor's Palace last week.
A free festival with live music and a DJ gave carers from across the borough an opportunity to meet other people like them and find out about employment opportunities available to them.
The Carers Bromley charity organised the event in Stockwell Close on September 13 as part of its project to help carers aged 16 to 24.
Research published in 2010 by the BBC indicated there are around 700,000 young people in the UK caring for family members.
Lynne Powrie, Chief Executive of Carers Bromley said: "The festival event for young adult carers was enjoyed by all who took part.
"Many young carers gained lots of useful information, enjoyed the bands and met other young carers too.
"It was great to see them dancing and having fun."
