Southeastern achieves its best ever performance Southeastern achieves its best ever performance

SOUTHEASTERN has announced its best ever punctuality performance, following a successful summer for transport.

Of the 50,500 trains which ran over the four week period ending on Saturday (September 15), 95.5 percent called at all the booked stations and arrived within five minutes of the scheduled arrival time at their destination.

Service delivery director for Southeastern, Vince Lucas, said: "This is the best train performance ever experienced by Southeastern customers in any four week period since Public Performance Measure (PPM) records began.

"This reporting period also coincided with the Paralympic Games when we were running extra services and carrying around 100,000 more passengers a day than usual."

He added: "We’ve been working extremely hard to provide the best possible service for our passengers.

"The south east is a challenging part of the rail network; we run more than 2,000 services and carry around 570,000 passengers every weekday.

"Providing a train service of this size and scale is an enormous task involving a workforce of over 3,800 full-time employees, so we are pleased to see this best ever result.

"We will continue to work hard to maintain the highest possible standard and find further improvements for our customers."

Mmmm yeah, only cos they seemed to make a special effort because of the Olympics and Paralympics. You watch performance will go down massively now!

Definitely achievable, especially when they lay on trains with 4 carriages during rush hour so they can divvy the trains up and meet these requirements. More should be done to take into consideration those left on platforms because the trains are too overcrowded.. where are those statistics?

You are mixing your opinion up with fact.

It's not great nor is it good, it passable.

I think its brilliant too. Been catching the catch train for 15 years and no complaints.

I've been travelling with Southeastern for seven years. I think it's a great service. I even remember in the thick snow that they will still try and get us to and from work.
Well done Southeastern. All you need to do is add air conditioning on your metro trains!

Even allowing for, and discounting, Southeastern’s weird contortions that a train 5 minutes late is “on time” this means that at least 4.5% arrived late. Multiply that by 50,500 and that shows at least 2272 trains arrived at least 5 minutes late in just 4 weeks.

And Southeastern have the bare faced nerve to describe this as “successful… best train performance ever…best possible service… and …highest possible standard “

If they really believe 95% is the benchmark no wonder they never see any need to improve.

If your boss only gave you 95% of your pay, or Tesco only gave you £95 of your £100 shopping order you would be up in arms.

Southeastern manage to get away with it year after year, and con you this is good !

100% would be better and without passenger leaping through closing doors, trespassing on the line, vandalizing equipment I'm sure they would get close.

Put it another way - if you don't like it try driving a car Orpington to London Bridge. You're lucky if you can do it in under an hour and you wouldn't even get close to being within 5 mins of target time 95% of the time.

Don't forget most of the factors you mention above are already factored out of their stats and they get dispensations to exclude them from their late running calculations.

If 95% is acceptable when you next buy your ticket offer them 95% of the price.

Let us know how you get on.

I guess that's Southeastern's philosophy - if you don't like it go by car !

Shame that this morning all the trains from Greenhithe seemed to be up the spout.
Also nearly every morning I hear an announcement at Greenhithe advising that the 7:37 to Cannon Street is delayed.

20 minute delays this morning.

Also during the Olympics trains had been cut and some didn't even stop at their regular stations.

I can count on one hand the times my trains have been cancelled this year. Maybe I am just lucky to be part of the 95%!

Great that they can run the service when people haven't actually paid for their tickets. Those going to the Olympics/Paralympics were given free travelcards. How about us fare paying passengers who travel twice a day, 365 days a year... when they can give us the service we pay for then they can congratulate themselves on a job well done!
