Sydenham school hosts bestselling author
4:12pm Wednesday 12th September 2012 in Bromley By George Sargent
BESTSELLING author Michelle Paver is coming to Sedghill School in Sydenham on September 14 to entertain pupils by reading from her new book.
The author, who has sold over 2.5m books worldwide, is most famous for writing the children’s series Chronicles of Ancient Darkness.
Students from Hayes Secondary School in Bromley, Torridon Junior School in Lewisham and Worsley Bridge Junior School in Beckenham will also be there to listen.
Michelle Paver’s latest book, Gods and Warriors, is set around the Mediterranean during the Bronze Age.
Sedghill head teacher, Ken Mackenzie, said: “I am delighted to welcome Michelle Paver, winner of the 2010 Guardian children’s fiction award.
“Sedgehill School places great emphasis on literacy. We aim to offer all our students the opportunity to develop a love of literature.”
Ms Paver is renowned for the lengths she goes to in researching her books. She has travelled to the Arctic, Egypt and even swum with dolphins and killer whales to help understand her book’s backdrops.
She was born in Malawi in 1960 and studied biochemistry at Oxford. She became a partner at a law firm before deciding to write full-time.
