Fun: St George's pupils at the new playground
CHILDREN at a Bickley primary school now have three new playgrounds to run around and learn in.
St George’s Primary, in Tylney Road, unveiled its new project on Friday after headteacher Valerie Carrier described its old play areas as resembling "Colditz".
The three playgrounds are aimed at different age groups, each with a different themed activity - one for maths, a playground for the younger years and another set up for five-a-side football.
Through fundraising by parent groups the school raised £20,000 to renovate the playground.
"I want people to look at our school and think there is another school Bickley," said Ms Carrier. "People have been coming saying, 'wow, is this really the same school?'"
Ms Carrier says throughout her 12 years at the school this is one of her proudest achievements.
"When I first arrived here it looked like Colditz but this is not the case anymore," she said.
The headteacher believes that the new facilities will ensure the school will see benefits in the classroom too.
She said: "What happens in play time will be reflected in their work. So if they have a happy play time they will have a happy work time."
