Bromley mums shine in Paralympics opening ceremony

TWO Bromley mums took part in the Paralympics opening ceremony wielding glowing umbrellas.

They wore fluorescent rain coats in the event on August 29 with Doc Martins and were connected to LED lights which illuminated their foreheads orange.

Their roles were part of the "enlightement" section which was opened by Professor Stephen Hawking.

Anne Browne, of Coniston Road, and Sam Anson, Clairemont Road, met through the PTA at St. George's Bickley CE Primary School, in Tylney Road, Bromley.

Ms Browne, said it was an "amazing" experience.

The 49-year old mum of one said: "We just wanted to get involved in a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

"The musical directors made you feel hungry to do the best you could.

"Some of the best things were the friendships formed and the bonding with different people as well as raising the profile of the Paralympics itself."

Thirty-four year old Mrs Anson, who is a mum of three, said: "When I walked into the crowd, I thought I was going to pass out because there were so many people and I was so nervous.

"My eldest daughter, Olivia, who's seven, told me: 'I'm so proud of you.' I loved taking part."
