A FANCY dress day and tombola are set to kick off a supermarket’s year of fundraising activities for St Christopher’s Hospice.

Sainsbury’s in High Street, Penge, hopes to raise as much money as possible for the hospice after shoppers voted for it as the charity they want to support for the forthcoming year.

And as well as events like the one on Friday (September 7) the staff at the store want to also raise awareness of the charity, which cares for people with terminal illness.

Sainsbury’s Penge manager Nick Barnes said: “We’re pleased and proud to be supporting the hospice over the next 12 months.

“We’ll be letting our customers know of our fundraising plans in-store and we hope they can join our colleagues in helping support them.”

Last year the supermarket's charity was the Rob Knox Foundation and managed to raise £722.
