More than 1,000 Biggin Hill flight slots booked for Olympics

THE borough has been a busy gateway for visitors flying in for the Olympic Games.

Biggin Hill Airport had 80 aircraft arrive from North America, Australia, China as well as Europe for the opening ceremony at the Olympic Park.

There are currently more than 1,000 flight slots booked for the Olympics with that figure set to rise.

The airport's business development manager, Robert Walters, said: "All our staff have been working flat out for several days, providing a comprehensive gateway service for passengers and crew members.

"After 12 months of planning and testing facilities, there is a buzz of excitement that it is now all happening and we are very happy that our systems are working well."

So they've managed this without those extra opening hours (refused by the Council) that were supposedly so essential to service Olympic traffic?

I did notice yesterday afternoon private jets circling round over West Wickham several times, with wheels down and banking quite sharply. I wonder if they were waiting to land

That's good, nice to see Biggin Hill thriving as an airport. Have not noticed any real increase in noise and we leave under the flight path.
