Fatal stabbing of teen in Downham leaves residents fearful for children

A FATAL stabbing of a teenager in Downham this morning has left residents fearful for their children.

A 16-year-old boy died this morning after he was stabbed in the chest at a party in Launcelot Road.

Police were called to the terraced house – which is opposite school Haberdashers’ Aske’s Knights Academy - at around 4am and the boy passed away at 5.11am.

He has been named locally and on Twitter as Nathaniel Brown.

Neighbour Caroline Brown, who lives on Launcelot Road, said:  “It is terrifying – it always happens in the six-week holiday.

“We have got the kids about and it isn’t nice for them.

The area is getting worse and worse – you can’t let your kids out because you are frightened for them getting stabbed.”

Jackie May, who lives a few doors down from the incident, describes how she heard police sirens in the early hours of the morning.

She said: “It is horrible. I am a very light sleeper. You hear the occasional row coming from that house – I didn’t hear a thing last night though.

“I heard a police siren at 4am and the police knocked on our door at 6am.

“We have had a lot of break-ins – I thought it was a burglary at first.

“It was probably a domestic thing.”

Three males have been arrested in connection with the incident and remain in custody at a South London police station.
