Birthday celebrations for youth music project Birthday celebrations for youth music project

Bromley-based music project ArtsTrain is celebrating its fourth birthday this week, on August 3.

Two new music tracks will be uploaded by the end of this week to mark the occasion.

The project, hosted by social enterprise Mytime Active,  has provided over 1,000 young people with more than 3,000 hours of musical experiences to date, through singing lessons, DJ tutorials and MC workshops.

MOBO award winning artist Soweto Kinch is a new ArtsTrain patron and it is hoped he will pass on his experience to the next generation of young musicians.

There is also now a youth panel which will help organise events and coordinate the activity of the project.

Sean George, 18, took part in the project and credits it with helping him stay out of trouble.

He said: “Growing up, I’m not going to lie, I was on the streets being irresponsible.

“The reason why a lot of the youth are doing what we’re doing is because there are not enough positive opportunities."

Sean said he thought more projects like ArtsTrain would help young people work towards a better future.
