A BECKENHAM family has been left devastated after their cat was killed by vicious thugs.

Vets believe seven-year-old Charlie was swung around by his tail and kicked so badly that vets were forced to put him down a few days later.

The attack left him with bruising to his inner thighs as well as kidney and nerve damage while his tail became detached from his spine.

Owners, Christine and Paul Glover, of Groveland Road, are still struggling to come to terms with what happened.

Christine, 50 said: "He went missing for a few days and then I found him asleep on the bed.

"The sheets were soaking with blood and he seemed fine first of all.

"It was only when I went to pick him up and he screamed I saw he was still bleeding."

The couple rushed him to Eden Park Veterinary Surgery and was told he had been attacked.

Mrs Glover said: "I couldn’t believe it. The thought of someone doing something like that makes me feel physically sick."

Charlie's tail was amputated and a few days later his injuries were judged to be so severe that he was put to sleep.

The vet who treated Charlie, Dr De Souza said it was rare to see such serious injuries inflicted in this way.

He said: "I only see this kind of thing once every two or three years.

"It's difficult to prosecute people for this kind of thing because there's no proof.

"It's only if someone saw something."

I agree with all the comments above they are scum - he is so much like out cat and also our cat is called Charlie he is the same colour and everything. How can these people sleep at night they pick on an innocent cat who they know cannot speak or fight back the poor little mite must have been petrified and in so much pain please if someone knows who did it tell the police let there be some justice for poor little charlie thoughts are with his owners

I am 73 years old, always thought of myself as a pacifist, but reading such cruelty makes my blood boil. I could happily stamp on these thugs' faces. I can't believe such yobs exist - we have to clamp down on animal cruelty - if anyone hurt my cat I really wouldn't be responsible for my actions.

Gladly go to prison for killing people who did this to my pets. My cats have saved my lifeand are family. If the police find out who did this, they better release pictures. Guys will need their teeth getting picked out of the curb trust me.

I totally agree with all the above comments, and i don't know how people can do this to poor innocent animals. But unfortunatley the police will not be interested in this case, they had no concern when may cat was shot with an air rifle 2 years ago despite it killing her.
This is why thugs continue to act in this manner because they know full well they can get away with it!
Its disgraceful!
My thoughts go out the tha family of charlie, i know just how hard it is. x

100% agreed. letters have to be written consistently and persistently to the people who can change the laws. otherwise, horrible things like this will just keep happening.
