ST CHRISTOPHER'S Hospice welcomed a record number of visitors to its annual family fun day.

Held in the hospice's gardens in Lawrie Park Road, Sydenham, the day included live entertainment such as bands, dance troupes and magic shows.

Popular children's attractions were also on offer including dray horse and cart rides, a bouncy castle and face painting.

Adults meanwhile were able to browse the many different stalls and enjoy the barbecue and beer tent.

Saturday's event saw more than 2,000 people come along - beating last year's figure of 1,600.

Proceeds from the day went towards the hospice providing free care to patients.

St Christopher’s community fundraiser Rebecca Kemp said: “We were so thrilled with how our Family Fun Day went on Saturday!

"We had a record number of people through the gates, with well over 2,000 visitors, and we are hopeful of beating last year’s amount raised which was £13,750.

"We are so grateful to all who contributed to the day – all our stallholders, entertainment acts, dedicated volunteers, all the supporters who donated items or attended, and our event sponsors at LV (Liverpool Victoria) who also ran the BBQ for us.

"The rain held off for most of the day and there was such a lovely atmosphere – thank you to all in the community who helped to make the 2012 St Christopher’s Family Fun Day such a success!

"We look forward to announcing the total raised soon. All the funds raised go to help us keep caring for people in our community."
