However, I do find your comment a little hypotcritcal as on several occasions I've expressed a different opinion to you, and you've come back with insults!

Or am I making a big presumption? They're not hurting anyone. I bet you were the ugly kid bullied at school. There's a lot worse going on in this world matey, my suggestion would be, get over YOURself.

Well then, have you never told a man he's handsome? Let the pretty people have their fun! We have use for ugo's too.. I hear London Dungeon is hiring.. =D
London Dungeon: I would scare the customers away. :-)
There's just something about the seedy world of this type of thing. It does women no favours and reinforces the idea that girls and women should be valued primarily for their physical appearance and put on a pedestal to look at.
An object not a person.

the wall wrote:Absolutely incorrect. It doesn't reinforce any kind of degradation towards women. It is merely a competition of beauty, brains and talent combined. In the world's strongest man tournaments the strongest is rewarded, in Wimbledon the best tennis player is rewarded, in beauty pageants the most attractive, interesting and talented are rewarded. If you don't like them, don't take part. Just don’t be bitter towards those who decide to compete. Green can be a very unflattering colour.

Things like this and the media portray what a beautiful woman should look like, have caused low self esteem in girls and woman this has been proved by many doctors. It has encourage some women to diet and/or have eating disorders to the point of harming themselves.
I'm sure there are many that are not effected and are very dedicated to what they do. At least they are doing something.
Let's agree to disagree. You but forward a well formed debate.

In fact, she's one of the most boring people I know. She's totally 'up herself', and can only hold a conversation if it's about her or make-up. i.e. totally fits the stereotype. I'm not saying they're all like that, but a stereotype is a stereotype for a good reason!

And I do agree with other comments that say that this kind of thing contributes to other girls or women having low self esteem. They're constantly shown images of how they 'should look'.
But at the end of the day, that's just my opinion, and everyone's free to enter these competitions if they want to.

PaulErith wrote:Disagree, it is open to your own interpretation. I believe if you are a balanced, well rounded person, you do not develop an eating disorder because you've seen a picture of Kate Moss in the Sun. You already have self esteem issues and pin them on celebrities and pictures in magazine and use them as the focal point of your "problem". There's always been sad people, depressed because they don't like the way they look, long before OK magazine came out. Do these people get upset when they see an attractive girl in Tesco's?
