NEW plans for a £10m investment have been unveiled showing how Orpington town centre could look in the future.

The new vision for the area around the Walnuts Shopping Centre, which includes plans for a cinema, new shops and restaurants and a new square, will be on show for residents to view on Thursday and Friday.

The proposals currently include a seven screen cinema, four new retail units and three new restaurants as well as remodelling the public square.

Garden Properties CH Ltd bought the Walnuts Shopping Centre and the former job centre which is next to it in September and have been working on the new plans over the last six months.

Mark Hewett from Miller Developments, who have been working on the project, said: “Since acquiring the site we have been in detailed consultation with Bromley Council about its redevelopment.

“Throughout the initial process we have listened to feedback from the people of Orpington and have been conscious of creating a proposal that will meet a great number of local needs.

“It is essential that our planning application takes into consideration the views and aspirations of the local community.”

The company is hosting a two-day event for people to look at the plans and give feedback ahead of submitting a planning application next month.

If permission is granted the new shops and restaurants could be open by Christmas 2013 and the new cinema by Easter 2014.

The public exhibition will take place on Thursday (May 31) and Friday (June 1) from 10am to 4pm and will be held within the Walnuts shopping centre in the area adjacent to Argos/Wilkinson.
