A WELLING woman has been named nurse of the year on her birthday.

Julia Ives, 52, a practice development nurse at the Bexleyheath centre in Emerton Close, was given the title by Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust on May 11.

It was in recognition of her work in giving patients blood test results in just a few minutes, enabling medication to be dispensed on the day of the test.

Miss Ives, who was awarded a £500 prize, beat off competition from around 1,700 colleagues who also work for the trust, which covers Bexley, Greenwich and Bromley.

She said: “I was positively overwhelmed to receive the Nurse of the Year Award. And it's my birthday today.”
