Cabinet reshuffle after councillor's bid to become Bromley Council leader fails

A CABINET reshuffle is on the cards after an unsuccessful challenge for the leadership of Bromley Council.

Councillor Ernest Noad lost his bid to take over from Cllr Stephen Carr as the council leader at the beginning of this month and he is now set to lose his position as the education portfolio holder.

Cllr Noad had held the post for six years but it is now to be given to Copers Cope ward councillor Stephen Wells.

Other changes at the council include a new planning sub-committee chairman, Cllr Simon Fawthrop (Petts Wood) and a new chairman for the education scrutiny committee: former teacher Cllr Nicholas Bennett (West Wickham).

Addressing the Conservative group, leader Stephen Carr said: “By continuing to listen and respond as we do, I believe we can move forward with a hugely exciting and innovative agenda.

“Notwithstanding the budgetary pressures, we are in a very strong position to see through the remaining life of this council and deliver our vision to build a better Bromley.”

As the largest party in Bromley, the Conservative group’s proposals are expected to be ratified at the council annual general meeting on Wednesday.

If you think my remarks are "rubbish" and want to discuss further, then why not stop hiding behind an alias and make yourself known. It is difficult to take seriously anybody that does not feel able to put thier name to thier thoughts.
Stephen Carr.

Councillor Carr says his cabinet 'listens and responds'. Well they certaintly do not listen to the most vulnerable in this borough. I am talking about the citizens in this authority who have learning disabilities and their carers.

Their PR machine often puts out statements on how they value carers, but we do not want mealy mouthed words, we want proper services that meet the needs of our loved ones. Only then can we be really sure you are truly listening.

Stephen, I have come across a few "sore losers" in my time, but you are the first example of a "sore winner"!

My real name is highly unusual, and my family would be readily identitified on "Facebook" if I used the same on a public forum, which is why I use a nom de plume.

Anyway, you are the most famous man in Bromley (after Colin Smith), so why you are getting upset over an anonymous nonentity like me is a little puzzling.

Perhaps you are stressed out with preparations for tommorrow, I hope you ahve a nice day, possibly I will see you there.

I can assure you, and indeed anybody reading this that I am not getting upset, but simply keen to hear the views of residents who perhaps see things differently. I am determined to be fair and open minded, but as I said before, I am not prepared to debate this anonymously.
Stephen Carr.

It may of course be pure coincidence that Ernest Noad makes an unsuccessful bid for leader of the council, and straight away he becomes marked to lose the position he has held for 6 years. To most people it smacks of revenge. I suspect the other two minor shuffles are there just to make the real one less obvious. This is a typical ploy.

Why does Bromley council appear to have obsessions on this site about people’s real names and use that as an excuse to duck the real issue? We are discussing the actions of leader of the council and, I assume, the response from a taxpayer who pays his wages. What their names are is irrelevant and just detracts from the key point that Noad’s coup failed so the knives are out.

Would Stephen Carr have a number of different responses depending on Goldenbroom Boy’s real name?

Let’s say his actual name is Cyril Goldenbroom, so over to you.

Stephen Carr should remember that there may be a variety of reasons a person chooses to publish comments without revealing their name e.g. they may work for the Borough and live in the borough but don't wish to suffer with any comeback over any discussion. I think refusing to talk demonstrates a lack of care and thought to the resident in question.
