Thug Krystian Konieczny jailed for attacking visually impaired passenger over need for guide dog

A MAN who attacked a visually impaired passenger on a train after mocking him for his poor sight and need for a guide dog has been jailed.

Krystian Konieczny, 27, of De Lapre Close, Orpington, was sentenced to eight weeks in prison for the assault which happened between London Victoria and Beckenham Junction at around 5.45pm on January 30.

The victim, 27, from Bromley, politely asked Konieczny and his friend to be careful when one of them trod on his guide dog's tail after they boarded the train at Brixton.

Later the pair approached the victim and verbally abused him, poking fun at his partial-sightedness and need for a guide dog.

Then, as the train arrived at Beckenham Junction, Konieczny shoved the victim in the back, causing him to stumble.

Feeling vulnerable and upset, the victim, who was travelling with a blind friend, left the train and walked up the platform before boarding another carriage.

Konieczny, identified on CCTV, pleaded guilty to assault by beating at Bromley Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

PC Mark Payne, the investigating officer, said: "Fortunately the victim was unharmed but Konieczny’s attack was very frightening for him and left him extremely shaken.

"To intimidate and then attack someone who is clearly vulnerable is appalling and we welcome the prison sentence handed down by the court."

Hugh Huddy, campaigns officer for the Royal National Institute of Blind People, said: "Feeling safe when out and about is essential to blind and partially sighted people's independence. No one should have to suffer abuse of any kind when they're going about their daily life, whether that be at work, when travelling or in social situations.

"We hope this case shows that the police and courts will take serious action against anyone behaving in an offensive or dangerous way towards a disabled person."

He will be out in 4 weeks!

Atleast his pic and basic address has been posted. I'm sure many a person will be looking to push him about and see how it likes the shoe being on the other foot.

To above posters asking about deporting him, they cant. He is Polish, which makes him part of the EU and able to reside in any EU country.

Unfortunately that's true but that really should still be a condition of this EU treaty. i.e. yes, you can reside in any country, but if you break the law, then you lose that right.

Agree. Sadly, however, expecting common sense from the Eurocrats in matters such as these is likely to disappoint...

I would suggest, Ron.1952, that if you are unable to refrain from insulting other well-meaning posters just because their literacy is not as good as yours, then you are the one with the problem.

sounds to me ron 1952 that you have to much time on your hands and are much happier digging other people out rather than making comment on the news article at hand.If all you can do is comment on peoples spelling mistakes then it sounds very much to me that you come across as one of the do gooders i mentioned before.Sounds like you're a sad old lonely man.Never mind maybe one day you'll encounter problems from this lovely polish lad who possibly has better grammar than me ha! ha! ha!

We should all rejoice! Thanks to the EU we have the 'freedom' to 'enjoy' criminals and scum from all over Europe unhindered by borders or powers to remove them. Why on Earth would anyone not be delighted with all this cultural enrichment?

Yes, some of our holiday makers and ex pats abroad behaviour is dispicable. See 'Our man in Orlando' (Monday books) for an acocunt of Huh Hunter's 10 years at the Consulate in Orlando dealing with Brits abroad. The crowd of Brits chanting at a mentally disabled man in a diner is one shameful episode.

The fact that there are plenty of home bred morons in the UK is all the more reason NOT to import any more from the EU isn't it? I dare say the Spanish authorities, for example, would just love to be able to deport some of our undesireables but they can't for the same reasons we can't. What joy!!
