  • "All this solar power is a load of nonsense, it all sounds good. What no one tells you about it is that you need banks of lead acid batteries ( life span 2 -3 years). Not very green in my book. Then you need an inverter ( very expensive ) to jump 12 volt to 120v or 240v depending what country you are in. The panels are still very expensive too, and from my experience don't last anything like 30 years, more like around 5.
Then the bottom line is the system just aint got the sheer power needed to run anything substantial. Its still years away from really being practical, it all sounds good for the tree huggers and thats about it."

BROMLEY police are showing off their green credentials by installing more than 120 solar panels on the station roof.

The panels, which are self cleaning and have a life expectancy of in excess of 30 years, will substantially reduce the station's carbon footprint over the coming years.

It is estimated they will save 21 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year.

The assistant facilities manager for Bromley police, Nicholas Reynolds, said: "We have been working hard to ensure the station meets the highest environmental standards and are already taking great steps towards managing and minimising our environmental impact".
