Marching to support gay rights

GAY campaigners are encouraging people to join a march to protest against the council's policy on same-sex wedding ceremonies.

Bromley Council says gay people cannot celebrate civil partnership ceremonies at its register office or council properties.

But when the Civil Partnerships Act is introduced in December, the council will be legally bound to register relationships.

London Mayor Ken Livingstone says his lawyers are looking into a legal challenge against Bromley's "discriminatory practices".

The march this Saturday sets off from the Crown and Anchor pub in Park Road, Bromley, at 11.30am, will head along Tweedy Road, down the high street and up Kentish Way.

The route will end at the Civic Centre, where protesters will present a petition to the council.
