POLICE in Bromley are warning residents to securely lock their plastic doors after a number of burglaries.
A spokesman said: "Thieves have been targeting properties with UPVC doors which are not properly secured.
"UPVC doors can be easily opened from the outside if they are not locked with the key from the inside. "Simply lifting the handle does not completely secure the door.
"Burglars have also been known to put their arm through a letterbox or use a tool to push the handle and gain entry to homes."
Safety advice: - UPVC doors must be double locked to be properly secure. - Deadlock your doors with the key – do not just lift the handle.
- Keep house keys upstairs or store them near the door, out of sight, for easy access in an emergency.
- Use all door and window locks fitted to your home.
- Keep your car keys away from the front door and store them somewhere safe.
- Consider fitting an internal letterbox cage.
