GROVE PARK & PENGE: Father and son injured in dog attack

GROVE PARK & PENGE: Father and son injured in dog attack GROVE PARK & PENGE: Father and son injured in dog attack

A FATHER and son were taken to hospital last night (January 24) after their family dog attacked them in Grove Park.

Police and ambulance crews were called to Palace View at around 9pm after a dog turned on its 43-year-old owner and his 14-year-old son.

The older man was taken to Kings College Hospital, Denmark Hill, with serious arm and hand injuries.

Doctors operated on his injuries overnight.

The London Ambulance Service say the teenager received less severe hand injuries and was taken to Lewisham Hospital.

The dog is thought to be a Staffordshire bull terrier or pitbull breed.

Eyewitnesses say a group of people helped the injured youngster into a van after the attack.

Neighbour Jacinta Corrigan, 23, said: “The dog was running around covered in blood.

“I could hear a man screaming at first.

“A group of boys were beating the dog off with a fire extinguisher.”

Officers are now investigating the incident and a police spokesman said the animal will be destroyed.

GROVE PARK & PENGE: Father and son injured in dog attack

The attack follows the confiscation of two pitbull-type dogs in Penge recreation ground on Thursday (January 21).

Bromley police were on patrol at 3.30pm when they saw two dogs acting aggressively.

Officers suspected they were an illegal breed and seized the animals.

A police spokesman said: “The owner now faces legal action, fines and, potentially, the dogs may be destroyed.”

The dogs were taken from their owner under the Dangerous Dogs Act and Sergeant Rob Goodwin, of the Penge Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: "We have a duty of care to ensure dogs such as these are never able to cause harm.

“The team have now seized three of these animals in Penge and would like to remind those who have them they risk obtaining a criminal record by owning them.”

Hi

If it was a pit bull I hope the law will take its course and prosecute the owner even if he was the one attacked. He should have know the breeding and type of dog it was before owning it.

the dog was reported 6weeks ago to the police when they were seen trying to get it to fight another dog, they were obviously training the dog to fight and attack so its no surprise.its definetely a pitbull mix,ive seen it myself.the police need to follow up on these reports that they ask us to make in regards to dangerous dogs, the owners need to be responsible, it gives a bad name to sensible dog owners who train their dogs properly

Hi

If the owner had concerns about the training of the dog he could bought such a thing as a muzzle for the dog to wear. You cannot blame previous owners for present owners actions that is a easy way out.

Lets all hope they save the dog but put the owners and 'cousion' down.

We really need to bring in compulsory sterilization for sections of the population, and I don't mean the canines.

Well lets hope that the owners are well enough to face prosecution for owning a dangerous dog. Thank God it was the owner it attacked and not someones child!!
Isnt it strange that on the street all the hard nuts are boasting about their fighting pits until the police are involved and all of a sudden 'its just a cuddly staff gov'ner ...honest!!'
Jonathan - youve managed to blame a variety of people...pdsa, police, previous owners...have you ever heard of taking responsibility? Your Uncle was responsible for this dog from the minute it became his.
No amount of obscenity from you will change that.

I'm tired of hearing about pitbull this and pitbull that. It is just a breed of dog which has evolved to withstand damage and take pain.
No can possibily blame the breed for how it's turned out.A police dog could easily attack someone like pitbulls have a reputation to, they could decide not to listen to its owner one day and attack someone as it has been trained to restrain people but they dont cause they have been disciplined. Most of these pitbulls have owners who are only interested in seeing what damage they can do and treat the dog badly. It is not the dogs fault, If anything that breed of dog is loyal, loving and trusting like any other breed. It only does as it is brought up to know. It's like sayin you take a baby from a family of crack heads & thiefs and given to a ideal family. R you tellin me that the child will grow up to be a crack head and thef if brought up in the right circumstances. No it wouldn't.
Animals only act on how they've been brought up and treated. I feel sorry for the dog! As it's now going to get killed for his irresponible owner! Maybe they should put the owner down for not bein able to control and handle its own dog!

Hi

On what profession grounds did you identify this dog? Was this decision taken on the information the owner gave you or are you a qualified person to identify breeds . DNA has to be taken in some incidents to correctly identify breeds. Just be happy it was not you who get savaged.

If it was taken in as a stray there is no way of knowing the background, also "they didn't bring it up" - so for all anyone knows it might have been bred & trained for fighting.

Just because it seemed friendly...
