THREE Bromley police officers were left nursing bruises after helping to deal with last night’s BNP protests at the BBC studios.

BNP leader Nick Griffin’s controversial appearance on Question Time last night sparked angry protests outside the BBC’s studios in Shepherds Bush.

Nine Bromley police officers, including an inspector, sergeant and seven PCs, were drafted in to help deal with anti-BNP protestors who turned violent as they tried to storm the corporation’s building.

A sergeant and two constables received minor back injuries after become trapped against a barrier.

One of the PCs also received a cut to his face after a stick was thrown at him.

MEP Nick Griffin has complained he was the victim of a "lynch mob" following his controversial appearance on Question Time.

After his performance was widely panned in the press, he denounced the "unfairness" of the way the programme was produced and called on the BBC to give him a second chance to appear, talking about the issue of the day.

"The British public are aghast at the display of bias from the BBC, the venom form the political class, and the sheer unfairness," he told a news conference.

"That was not a genuine Question Time, that was a lynch mob."

More than eight million people tuned in to watch Mr Griffin on the programme - around three times the usual number of viewers.
