COUNCILLORS have agreed to support a motion calling for more off-street parking spaces to be allowed at new housing developments.
A petition has also been started on the Prime Minister’s website stating a lack of off-street parking makes roads “inaccessible, cluttered and encourages crime”.
Petts Wood and Knoll councillor Simon Fawthrop proposed the motion and says a change to the planning regulations will help prevent the problems associated with a lack of parking, and make new developments more spacious.
He added: "With the Government's plans to revive the economy including discounts on new car purchases, it's a pity their planning policies aren't joined up so that people who purchase cars have somewhere to park them."
Councillors agreed to support the motion at a meeting on June 30 and the council is now expected to write to the Secretary of State, the Mayor of London, the Greater London Assembly and the borough’s MPs about their views.
Find the petition on the Number 10 website.
