BIGGIN HILL & DOWNE: Drama and music help teach Charles Darwin's theories

MUSIC, drama and art helped youngsters get to grips with science during a celebration of Darwin’s 200th birthday.

Sixth form students from Newstead Wood School for Girls in Orpington and Biggin Hill’s Charles Darwin School met at Cudham School, also in Biggin Hill, to lead educational workshops during Darwin Day.

The older students used the arts to help pupils from Cudham and Downe Primary schools learn more about the scientist and his work.

Darwin ward councillor Peter Bloomfield said: “I am pleased that young people are taking an interest in the value and importance of their local heritage, and that it will be safe in their hands for future generations.”

The students were joined during celebrations by a Darwin actor who brought the man and his work to life, and also by Randal Keynes, Darwin’s great, great grandson.
