Cafe’s reward for not butchering 1930s Art Deco shop front

THE managers of a cafe have been rewarded for preserving the original shop front at their premises.

Bromley Civic Society, which promotes awareness of Bromley's town centre heritage, presented a certificate to Brodie's tea shop.

It has maintained many aspects of the Art Deco shop front of the former Kennedy's butchers.

Councillor Anne Manning, who is Bromley Council's heritage champion, presented the certificate at the shop in Bromley High Street.

A society spokesman said: "The owners valued the 1930s shop front, with its sun ray motifs and beautiful green and gold Kennedy's sign over the door, as part of the familiar and cherished Bromley street scene.

"They were determined to keep it."

Shop manager Andrew Andreou said: "The inside has a contemporary look but we have kept tradition as well."
